Michael Wolter's 'The Voyage'

'The Voyage' is a 12-minute long opera in two acts, given as a version played alongside a film of the original performance in Birmingham. The piece, a collaboration between the composer Michael Wolters and theatre company Stan's Café, concerns the constructed nature of nationality in a mobile world and takes the dynamics of emigration and immigration/departure and return as its dramatic substance. The piece is tied to the Olympics through the narrative of a mythological figure who leaves home and travels overseas to face trials in the hope of returning a hero.
