Cool school jazz from this charismatic Mancunian trumpter (who's already made a name for himself as a DJ/arranger/producer) Halsall possesses a sparse yet warm sound via refreshingly lyrical melodies and spacious grooves. Moving directly into trip-hop territory here, he hooks up with turntabalist Kristian Gjerstad and Cinematic Orchestra drummer Luke Flowers to create beat-laden soundscapes that join the dots between his Milesian trumpet sound and cool, clubby samples and loops.
