Lord knows how Martin Carthy (MBE) narrowed down his song choice for his recent Desert Island Discs outing (though wife Norma Waterson and daughter Eliza Carthy obviously had to be in there somewhere) – he seems to know every folk song ever written, in all their developing variations. An incredibly influential folk singer, mesmeric narrative guitarist, bold but humble musical interpreter and veritable treasure trove of traditional song, the 71-year-old could, tonight, play pretty much anything – and have you rapt. Support from Irish folk troupe, The Rakes.
