Who else would conceive of a duet with Dame Edna Everage (for 2012's by turns heartbreaking and hillarious 'Older Than My Old Man Now') entitled 'I Remember Sex'? An utterly brilliant singer-songwriter, and more recently an actor (he played a gynecologist in Judd Apatow's 'Knocked Up'), Wainwright may be overshadowed by his offspring Rufus and Martha nowadays but he's still very much the daddy. Mixing wit and whimsy, as a performer he knows the exact value of each song, from his own personal throwaway albatross – 'Dead Skunk' – to his devastatingly honest desconstructions of family life.
