Pay no attention to the Taylor Swift comparisons: although Musgraves, a singer-songwriter from Texas, is on the brink of country-to-mainstream crossover success, she sounds like she’s aiming for Alanis Morrisette rather than Tay. She hasn’t entirely left country music behind yet, either: her latest album ‘Pageant Material’ is her fifth – she self-released her debut when she was 12 – and it’s another great showcase for her black humour, slide guitar and strutting grooves.
