The headlining North London songwriter has steeped himself in folk, blues, lyric poetry and, judging by his moniker, the lesser known works of George Eliot. Meanwhile Beattie continues to lead his shifting group of musicians with a sweetly chafed voice and melodies full of laid-back charm.
