Self-confessed 'movie geeks' Califone are an avant-garde indie-folk band from Chicago with a cinematic niche. Their debut album 'All My Friends Are Funeral Singers' was released as a soundtrack to a film directed by the band's frontman Tim Rutili, and the band have released two albums recorded as live soundtracks for silent films. Live, without visuals, they come across as a deconstructed folk band with a country edge: guitar, percussion and pizzicato violin accompany Rutili's creamy voice and narrative lyrics.
