When '60s Mississippi bluesman and harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite married for the third time, John Lee Hooker was his best man. These days his favourite sidekick is the considerably younger Ben Harper, whose eclectic output to date has included Grammy wins in the 'traditional soul gospel' and 'instrumental pop' categories and a collaborative 2004 album with The Blind Boys of Alabama. Musselwhite and Harper clicked at the Byron Bay Blues Festival back in 1996, but the recent 'Get Up!', a smoothly scuzzy mix of blues, gospel and R&B breakdowns released (natch) on Stax, is their first album together.
