Renée Fleming, America’s leading lyric soprano is in residence at the Barbican to introduce a film, chair a discussion, lead a masterclass and – most importantly – join the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo to sing Robin Holloway’s luminous arrangement of Debussy’s Verlaine setting, ‘C’est L’extase’ and Anders Hillborg’s elegiac ‘Strand Settings’. These are bookended by a pair of sensual French ballet scores: Debussy’s ‘Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune’ and Ravel’s ‘Daphnis et Chloé’.
