The best new music line-up of London's summer festivals takes over Victoria Park for another year of all-day dancing, inadvisable fairground ride use and heaps of excellent new bands. If you’re there (and you should be) make sure you catch these five acts which are so-hot-it-hurts.

Chvrches

This Glasgow boy-boy-girl trio are the UK’s brightest hope for synth music in 2013. Unapologetically ’80s beats drive things along, while singer Lauren Mayberry’s fragile-yet-striking vocals lift Chvrches’s songs into the higher realms of pop. It’s all as retro as fondue, but far less cheesy.

Splashh

Several great psych-rock bands are presently swirling through the mists toward your Spotify accounts, including Jagwar Ma, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and, last but not least, Splashh. These noisy Hackney locals will be hyping things up ahead of the release of their debut album, ‘Comfort’.

How To Dress Well

In between penning tear-jerking, confessional songs and
reinventing R&B for the cool kids, Tom Krell – aka How To Dress Well – is a philosophy PhD student in Cologne, finishing his dissertation on German philosophy after Kant. Pick his brains on that after the show, Kant fans.

Key track: ‘& It Was You’.

Bat For Lashes

Natasha Khan’s three albums have established her spooky, songwriting voice in the mainstream, and inspired a generation of imitators, including Charlotte Church! She’ll be giving the crowd hopefully their only shivers of the day, with songs from latest release ‘The Haunted Man’.

Key track:Laura’.

Mount Kimbie

This duo have been holed up in a Bermondsey studio recently, cranking out the brilliantly rough beats and low-key melodies of their second album, ‘Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’. Time Out’s favourite ginger crooner King Krule (sorry, Mick Hucknall) guests on the record, and will be at Field Day, so look out for a likely collaboration between these two ace south London acts.

Key track:Made to Stray’.
