Few would disagree that there just aren't enough robots and water bottle rockets at festivals. Seeking to change this is Deer Shed, a thoroughly family and kid-friendly fest full of wacky science workshops and machines alongside a solid programme of indie, folk and alternative pop.
Headlining Friday is punker, folker and activist Billy Bragg, so expect a mass singalong to 'New England' at some point. There's music of a darker hue on Saturday, when critically acclaimed songwriter John Grant brings his rich musical palette and wry, unsparing lyrics to the mainstage. While Sunday's headliner The Uthanks, backed by a ten-piece band, sign off the festival with their innovative, experimental folk music.
2015's theme is 'Up in the Air' – so remember to look to the sky for some star-gazing, as well as the stage.
