Time Out says

Carlyle's House, the home of Victorian writer and historian Thomas Carlyle, is a Queen Anne terrace house containing his sound-proofed study, atmospheric rooms and a simple kitchen, preserved just as they were at the time of his death in 1881. Original furnishings, books, pictures and personal items illuminate the lives of the Carlyles and their literary circle: Dickens, Chopin, Tennyson, George Eliot and Emerson. The walled town garden, with its Victorian planting theme is a particularly attractive feature.
