This well-to-do Georgian beauty has been a hotel since the 1920s, and was refurbished in 2013. It still has an atmospheric, antique air, although the rooms have mod cons enough – TVs, mini-fridges, tea and coffee, and free Wi-Fi. Its looks have earned it a role in Agatha Christie’s Poirot, but it’s not chintzy, just floral. The breakfast room is handsome, with snowy cotton tablecloths and Windsor chairs, and the buffet breakfast – which includes hot options – is free.
