The Britania is housed in a carefully restored build- ing from the 1940s that was designed by leading Portuguese architect Cassiano Branco. It attracts a mixture of media business types and city-break cou- ples. Rooms are generously sized with marble bath- rooms and classical furniture, and offer five-star comforts at three-star prices, including room service and free Wi-Fi.
There’s a generous buffet breakfast, the receptionists speak good English and there’s a concierge service. Parking is relatively cheap at €9 a day. The Britania is part of the Heritage chain, so guests can use Holmes Place gyms; there’s one on Avenida da Liberdade.
