The cooler, independent younger sibling of the Dorsett Shepherds Bush Hotel, Dao by Dorsett offers a vibey hybrid of a hotel stay and an airbnb, with its swish serviced apartments. The 74 suites offer a peaceful and compact haven overlooking the bustle of Shepherds Bush Green, complete with an equipped kitchenette, and a multitude of ‘journeys’ to tailor your stay.
The supplements on offer include ‘move your way’, which consists of an in-room peloton bike, and a day pass rate at two local gyms; the ‘family adventure’ consists of a super fun colour-in placement, hot chocolate and reduced entry at the nearby Kidzania, and ‘pet friendly’ means no qualms should your pooch be accompanying you, thanks to the bed and toys which are included.
We opted to pamper ourselves with the ‘self-care club’ and lather up in the Yina bio-cellulose face mask while sipping on some delectable sparkling tea. The package also included red-light therapy face treatment, and the option to get an in-room massage with 20 percent off. Oh-so luxurious.
The gilded grandeur of the lobby area, shared by the Dorsett Shepherds Bush Hotel, meanders into the Jin Bar, which offers a (sadly, only metaphorical) trip to Mexico with its mezcal-themed menu — there are over 60 to choose from.
Neighbourhood
Settled comfortably between Shepherds Bush, Shepherds Bush Market and Goldhawk Road tube stations, Dao is a well-connected West London oasis where the city centre is still within safe grasp. Walking distance away are the charms of Notting Hill and Holland Park, but it's also only across the street from the shopper’s nirvana that is Westfield. The platter of Hammersmith’s riverside pubs are also not too far down the road.
Nearby
La Petit Citron: 10 minutes walk from Dao is this hidden gem of a Bistro, serving up an elegant menu of provençal dishes alongside a hearty wine list.
The Hawk’s Nest: a vibrant neighbourhood hotspot of pizza and cocktails, this bar hosts a weekly quiz night, live music and promises a laid-back buzz.
Bush Hall: this quaint Georgian venue has been operating as an independent venue since 2001, offering up live music, cabaret and comedy, just around the corner from Dao.
Time Out Tip
Make the most of Shepherds Bush Market’s vibrant array of food traders, by sampling their signature dishes under the fairy-lit avenue, including the likes of chimney cakes, falafels or Ethiopian delicacies. Alternatively, browse for some produce to whip up whenever suits you — thanks to Dao, you should have all the kit you need.
