The olive-green façade of this relatively new hotel in a refurbished 18th-century building (it opened in early 2013) is a taster for the darkly handsome contemporary interiors dreamed up by leading Portuguese designer Nini Andrade e Silva. The rooms have a lighter touch, with creams and whites balancing out the browns and blacks that prevail elsewhere.
All rooms have iPod docking stations and free Wi-Fi. The golden ground-floor bar is a glamorous place for a cocktail. The tiny gym has two machines and an exercise ball, and there’s a spa (€10 for guests, waived if you book a treatment) and a sauna with a view of the castle.
