What started in Berlin as a reaction to waxing often being an afterthought in many salons, Wax in the City now has branches all over Europe, and even makes and sells its own range of waxing-related products. Its first London branch, on the quieter end of King's Road, has to be seen to be believed – after giving your info to the friendly receptionist, you'll be led downstairs to what looks like a futuristic hospital, complete with pristine white walls, lofty pot plants and curtained cubicles. You'll then be given a thorough once-over by a well-trained therapist (or 'depiladora', as they're called here) – on our visit we had a hot wax that left legs so smooth that the discomfort was totally worth it. Prices are reasonable, with bikini waxes from £20 and half legs from £25, and there are separate de-fuzzing menus for men and women.
