With its gleaming towers, spotless plazas and marble-walled shopping malls, Canary Wharf isn’t a place for the scruffy. Good job, then, that a new branch of Ted’s Grooming Room has recently opened in the shopping centre at Churchill Place.
The latest addition to Ted Baker’s grooming chain brings its London locations to a round dozen. These are Turkish barbershops through-and-through; they don’t just tend to your locks, but send you out into the world fresher, smarter and, well, a lot less hairy. Treatments range from a standard cut (£28.50) to additional services like beard trims, eyebrow threading and ear flaming (a lit swab is sent into your ears to burn all those little hairs away – don’t say you haven’t been warned). I got the ‘Full Ted Service’ (£48.50). Not only did this get me a haircut so neat that, to quote Grampa Simpson, ‘you could set your watch to it’, but also an eyebrow trim, a hot towel cutthroat razor shave, a good dousing in cologne and a thorough pummeling of my arms and shoulders. Rest easy, gents of Canary Wharf: you can go about your high-powered business and always be sure of looking the part.
