Long before the The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, legendary Swedish horror film Häxan was foreshadowing the found-footage genre with some of the most chilling visuals in silent cinema. Don’t miss the chance to see it with an improvised score from musician Hugo Max, whose viola strings will ramp up the edgy atmospherics and give new voice to this classic chiller. ‘My improvised scores on solo viola draw inspiration from the leitmotifs and sound effects of ’70s horror soundtracks,’ says Max, ‘and the languages of Expressionist composers working contemporaneously to silent era filmmakers’. Should be an eerie new year’s treat.
