Heineken Open'er Festival

MIA, Pulp, Chromeo, deadmau5, Hurts, Kate Nash, Foals, Cut Copy, Coldplay, Paolo Nutini, Primus, SImian Mobile Disco. Nine years on the trot and this bargainous Polish event has expanded from one day to four. Held in a huge airfield (room for 20,000 tents), like most European festies, this one kicks off at 4pm with the last band on at 2am and DJs till 5am. Stages boast more mainstream international acts such as Sri Lanka-via-London renegade MIA, with her baile funk, synthy futuro-pop, clattering electro rock, fidget house and pretty much any other genre you care to mention, and Chris Martin and his stadium-filling crew, through to dancier acts such as Canadian producer deadmau5 and mighty Melbourne trio CC, who direct our dancing feet with perky, sun-dappled disco cum krautrock cum New Order-indebted electro-pop. This is also a chance to see the enthusiastic polymath, beloved national treasure and 6Music star Jarvis Cocker reunited with his Sheffield Britpop crew Pulp. Given that this takes place in an airfield hopefully the hippy poi atmospherics will be minimal and the beer is cheap!
