From surreal ragtime to classical discipline, the Royal Ballet's three resident choreographers will show off their varied modus operandi in this mixed bill. It kicks off with Wayne McGregor's 2016 work 'Obsidian Tear', which casts nine men as mysterious figures, warriors or priests, who create a sinuous, pared down performance set to an original score. Then, there's Frederick Ashton's 'Marguerite and Armand', a gorgeous, stylish duet that was first created for Nureyev and Fonteyn. 'Elite Syncopations' finishes the programme with a burst of bonkers energy: Kenneth MacMillan's zany, sexy ragtime piece features neon-bright leotards.
