English National Ballet celebrates the iconic French choreographer Roland Petit, a man who was at the hub of bohemian Paris in the '40s and '50s, working with Picasso, Brassaï and Jean Cocteau among others. His innovative choreography incorporated theatrical elements, mime, props and even singing, and he choreographed for films including 'The Glass Slipper' and 'Anything Goes'. English National Ballet will be performing three pieces: 'L'Arlésienne', a story of thwarted love set to music by Bizet; 'Le Jeune Homme et la Mort', a pas de deux of existential angst; and Petit's sexually-charged 'Carmen', a piece that was shocking in its day.
