Originally a South Asian classical dancer specialising in Bharata Natyam, Shobana Jeyasingh has become one of the most heralded names in contemporary dance since she founded her company in 1988. Here she stages a new piece, commissioned by the Royal Ballet, where the choreographer will drawn on her older influences while reworking Marius Petipa's 1877 ballet 'La Bayadere'. Connecting east and west, Jeyasingh will look at the way the piece relates to the west's fascination with the orient.
