Another piece from choreographer Akram Khan on the knotty issue of cultural identity. This one, 'Desh' (meaning homeland), promises to be the most personal of his many works on the subject, inspired by his Bangladeshi roots. In this solo, Khan portrays everyday characters in Bangladesh, using his voice and body and some help from writer and poet Karthika Nair and visual artist Tim Yip (who was the production designer on 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'). Khan is without doubt one of the most compelling physical performers in the country, but when it comes to acting, speaking and storytelling, his output has been more patchy, however this show had great reviews when it opened in Leicester. Go see.
