In the UK, Whoopi Goldberg is best known for her comic turns in smash-hit films ‘Ghost’ and ‘Sister Act’. But she first made her name in the US with a series of acclaimed stand-up cum one-woman performances (‘The Spook Show’) that date back to the early 1980s. Therefore it’s a big deal to have her perform her thoughtful, charismatic one-woman show in the capital for the very first time.
We can’t say for certain what she has in store; however, judging by her past work it will probably include some character monologues – often depicting society’s overlooked and marginalised (think Richard Pryor’s ‘Mudbone’) – along with more straight ahead commentary on race and politics. Plus gags too, of course. Don’t forget the gags. What more can we say really, other than, Whoopi!
