COMPETITION RULES (“Rules”)
These Rules set out the legal terms governing participation in the Competition. We recommend that you read them carefully before entering.

WHAT’s THE PRIZE?
8 winners will be selected to perform a 5-minute comedy skit at the Extra Hot Comedy Club event hosted by Time Out and Nando’s in either of the locations below. This prize is referred to as the Prize Package in these Rules.
- *London on March 31, 2025;
- Birmingham (Nando’s, 71 New Street, Birmingham B2 4DU) on April 7, 2025;
- Brighton (Nando’s, 121-124 London Road, Brighton BN1 4JH) on April 22, 2025; or
- Edinburgh (Nando’s 71-73 Lothian Rd, Edinburgh EH3 9AZ) on April 28, 2025.
(each an “Event” and together the “Events”).
👉 There are a few additional conditions which apply to this Prize Package:
- The winners’ acknowledge and agree to:
- be available and perform and/or show their 5-minute comedy skit at the Event at the location chosen by Time Out;
- enter into any agreements with Time Out as may be reasonably required and prior to the date of the Event;
- irrevocably grant all consents necessary for Time Out to film and record their performance at the Event and to use such recordings featuring their image, name and/or voice in connection with the Event and to exploit the same in all media throughout the world in perpetuity without the need for payment; and
- participate in publicity, which may include appearing in a short video on or before the Event, having their photograph taken, and participating in any other promotional and press activities as may be required by Time Out.
- If any of the winners reside outside of the location of the Event that they will perform at, Time Out may cover the winner’s reasonable transportation costs to and from the Event and 1 nights’ accommodation.
- *The London location and the times of the Events are to be confirmed by Time Out.
WHEN CAN I ENTER THE COMPETITION?
Start Date: GMT 12:15 am on 20th January 2025.
Stage 1 End Date: GMT 11:45 pm on February 16, 2025
Stage 2 End Date: GMT 11:45 pm on February 28, 2025
HOW DO I ENTER?
To enter Stage 1 of the Competition, you must:
- Create a standup comedy video featuring only yourself in 1 minute or less;
- Post your video to your Instagram feed and tag #ExtraHotComedyClub and @TimeOutLondon; and
- Ensure your Instagram account is set to public until the Stage 1 End Date.
That’s it, make sure to complete the above steps on or before 11.45pm on February 16, 2025.
To enter Stage 2 of the Competition after being shortlisted, you must:
- Respond to Time Out’s direct message sent on Instagram on or around February 18, 2025 and provide your email address on or before February 20, 2025];
- Complete the online application form sent by Time Out via email on or before February 24, 2025; and
- Participate in a 10-minute video call with one of the judges on or before February 28, 2025.
That’s it, make sure to complete the above steps in accordance with dates set out in steps 1 - 3.
👉 By entering Stages 1 and/or 2, you understand that you are entering this Competition and agree to these Rules.
WHO CAN ENTER?
The Competition is open to all UK residents over the age of 18, except employees of Time Out and the Prize Provider, its agents, contractors and their family members. All entrants and the winners must be aged 18 or over - you will not be eligible for the Prize Package if you are under 18. You can only enter once - multiple entries will not be accepted.
HOW DOES IT WORK
This is a game of skill competition. There are two stages to this Competition and each stage will be judged by a panel of judges and scored in accordance with the criteria below:
Stage 1:
The judging panel for Stage 1 consists of Rose Johnstone (Time Out Head of Commercial Content) and Anya Ryan (independent comedy expert). Each standup comedy video will be judged by Rose Johnstone and scored in accordance with the criteria below and she will select a shortlist of the highest-scoring 24-30 entries. This shortlist will then be judged and scored by Anya Ryan and the scores from both judges will be combined and the highest-scoring 24 entries will make it to Stage 2 of the Competition. Time Out will notify the shortlist via direct message on Instagram.

This could be in the way they present themselves, a character they create, the way they interact with audience members, etc. Points will be deducted if the video is longer than 1 minute. |

Someone who is confident in front of a crowd and making them laugh. This should come through from the video submitted, whether it’s stand-up in front of a crowd or a sketch. |
Stage 2:
The judging panel for Stage 2 consists of Munya Chawawa (comedian), Joseph Mackertich (Time Out UK editor), Chiara Wilkinson (Time Out deputy editor), Andrzej Lukowski (Time Out theatre and comedy editor), Hannah Smith (Nando’s Head of Brand), Rose Johnstone and Anya Ryan. The panel of judges will judge and score your video call in accordance with the criteria below. The panel of judges will combine your score from Stage 1 and Stage 2 and select the highest-scoring 8 winners. Time Out will notify the winners via email on the week commencing 3rd March 2025.

OTHER RULES
- Time Out reserves the right to exclude any entry from the Competition at any time if it has a reason to believe that the entrant has breached any of the Rules.
- If an entrant is experiencing any problems with the online application form, please email competitions@timeout.com.
- Any entries submitted after the specified dates in Stages 1 and 2, or those that do not meet the requirements outlined for each stage, will be disqualified.
- Any material submitted to Time Out must be submitted by the original creator of the entry and must not be defamatory, obscene, unlawful, offensive, infringe the rights of any third party, or include the image or any information about somebody else.
- The winners will be notified by Time Out via email. The winners may be asked to provide identification. Any winner who is not contactable or who fails to return contact within 72 hours of notification will be disqualified, in which case the winner forfeits their right to the Prize Package, no compensation will be given and another winner will be selected by the panel of judges.
- The Prize Package is non-negotiable, non-transferable and non-refundable.
- In the event of unforeseen circumstances Time Out and the Prize Provider reserve the right to substitute the Prize Package for an alternative of equal or greater value.
- Time Out accepts no responsibility if the Prize Provider refuses to issue the Prize Package.
- The names of the winner may be obtained by sending a written request with a stamped addressed envelope stating which competition you would like the winner’s details for, to Time Out England Limited, 1st Floor, 172 Drury Lane, London WC2B 5QR or by email to competitions@timeout.com. The request must be submitted within 1 calendar month after February 28.
- By entering the Competition, entrants will provide personal information to Time Out, and all entrants consent to Time Out processing their personal data for the purposes of administering this Competition. Entrants also consent to Time Out recording the 10-minute video call during Stage 2 of the Competition. All personal information will be handled in accordance with the GDPR and Time Out’s privacy notice: www.timeout.com/privacy-notice.
- The panel of Judges’ decision in Stage 1 and Stage 2 is final and binding on the entrants. No correspondence will be entered into.
- Any winners’ details shared by Time Out or the Prize Provider will be limited to surname and country only, in accordance with ASA guidelines and UK General Data Protection Regulations.
- Copyright in all entries submitted for this Competition remains with the respective entrants. However, entrants agree that by submitting an entry to the Competition, they grant Time Out a royalty free, perpetual irrevocable worldwide licence to use and republish their entry. This includes sharing the entry through social media and publication by Time Out worldwide in any of their publications, their websites and/or in any promotional material.
- Time Out accepts no liability for any loss or damage however caused, including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss or damage or personal injury (with the exception of death or personal injury caused by Time Out’s own negligence) suffered or sustained in connection with the Prize Package.
- If an act, omission, event or circumstance occurs which is beyond the reasonable control of Time Out and/or the Prize Provider and which prevents Time Out and/or the Prize Provider from complying with these Rules, neither Time Out or the Prize Provider will be liable for any failure to perform or delay in performing their obligations. Time Out reserves the right to modify, delay, postpone or cancel the Competition in the event of circumstances outside of its reasonable control.
- This Competition and these Rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
- This Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Instagram.
The Competition promoter is Time Out. Time Out has the right to license any rights granted to Time Out to its associated companies and licensees.
