Back in 2015, we were much taken with Kieran Hodgson's 'Lance', a beautifully written, knowing hour focusing on his teenage hero Lance Armstrong who helps the cycle-mad Yorkshire boy through tough times. It deservedly bagged him an Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination and much critical acclaim. New show 'Maestro' centres around Hodgson's early obsession for the music of Gustav Mahler. Thirteen years on from that musical epiphany, he is taking to the stage with a violin and a story about falling in love and attempting something far beyond your abilities (in this case writing a symphony). It promises to be a classical gas.
