This is a bold statement, but what the hell: 22-year-old American wunderkind Bo Burnham's 'What' is undoubtedly the comedy show of the year. There's layer upon layer of ridiculously smart, innovative wit at work in this glorious 60-minutes, from a talent who's worryingly mature and self-aware for his age. Burnham started on YouTube, recording intricately written raps and songs in his bedroom. But since he's turned to live comedy, he's been wowing crowds across the globe, especially at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he's received a shed load of five-star reviews and won the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award Panel Prize. 'What' is a show about comedy itself, playing with what's expected of the form and subverting stand-up clichés. If that all sounds a bit poncy, don't worry: it's ridiculously funny and not at all self-congratulatory. It's the funniest show we've seen all year, in fact. Do not miss these London shows.
