Absence makes the heart grow fonder – and so, it turns out, does a multi-million-pound spruce-up. The Odeon Leicester Square, the jewel in London’s moviegoing crown, has been restored, improved and reopened with suitable fanfare. It now has a snazzy new bar – Oscar’s – as well as all the most bleeding-edge technical fittings and fixtures, including Dolby sound and digital projection. It also boasts chairs so sophisticated, they’ll practically watch the movie for you. Yes, some of the pricing is on the high side, but as Odeon is at pains to point out, some is also on the low side – especially in what used to be called the Odeon Mezzanine (now simply screens 2-5).
