What's the funniest film ever made? More than 70 comedians give us the definitive answer

It's a question that has plagued humankind since the invention of the cinematograph (probably) – what are the funniest movies ever made? Now we finally have an answer. We've asked experts in the field – stand-up comedians like Jo Brand, Jack Whitehall and Sara Pascoe, comedy actors including Dan Aykroyd, Peter Capaldi and Sharon Horgan, and writers and directors from Richard Curtis ('Four Weddings and a Funeral') to Edgar Wright ('Shaun of the Dead') – to give us their opinion, and the results are officially in.

We first published our 100 Best Comedy Movies list in 2011, and since then it's become the go-to for everything funny and filmic. After five years, we decided an update was needed, so we contacted some of the hottest new comedians for their take, to see if we can't make this list even more unbeatable. Our new list will surprise you, it may delight you – or it might just make you red with rage. But if you're looking to laugh your socks off, this is the perfect place to start.

Did our experts get it right? Or is our number one film about as funny as a slap in the face with a wet fish?

Take a look at our list of the 100 best comedy movies and let us know what you think.
