Blaming your tardiness on the tube can feel like a limp excuse, but it turns out it's (probably) always true.

Figures from TfL show that in 2015, passengers had to put up with 280,355 'lost' hours because of overcrowding, which is up from 130,813 hours in 2013. Things are particularly bleak on the Jubilee line, which was the worst offender last year with 90 incidents of disruption, causing 129,200 hours of extra journey time. But on the plus side, if you're in the habit of 'accidentally' hitting snooze one too many times in the morning, your go-to excuse just got way more credible.
