It seems like now's the time for sprucing up London's landmarks - not only is Big Ben is going to fall silent for a three-year repair programme, but it's just been announced that Tower Bridge is going to be closed for three months. Well, it is 122 years old. The bridge will be closed to traffic from October 1 while it undergoes maintenance work, which isn't likely to go down too well seeing as it's used by nearly 21,000 vehicles every day. That said, the bridge hasn't had significant engineering works for 35 years, so it's about time it had some TLC. But don't worry, it will only be closed to pedestrians for three weekends, so you'll still be able to go for a stroll over the bridge during most of the works.
