1. See the terrifying specimens that are ending and saving lives with their secretions at the National History Museum's new exhibition 'Venom: Killer and Cure'. Take a look at specimens, including snakes, scorpions, ants and centipedes, plus see the impact the mysterious weapon has had over time in different cultures. Tickets are £10.50.

2. The Southbank Centre's Winter Festival is back again for the frosty months. Head along for festive shows and performances, fun pop-ups and activities along a Nordic theme and the annual Wintertime Christmas market. Look out for an alpine lodge and a rooftop Finnish sauna on the Queen Elizabeth Roof Gardens. Entry is free, but you may be charged for some events.

3. The capital's latest Christmas destination is back for a second year. Christmas in Leicester Square opens today and will be home to grotto, traditional Christmas market and a vintage Spiegeltent, where you can see a busy programme of Christmas shows brought to you from the Underbelly team. Entry is free, but tickets must be bought for selected events.
