1. Celebrate Shoreditch Oktoberfest at the Last Days of Shoreditch's German-style knees up. See a live oompah band, a German breakdancing troupe and street magicians while feasting on bratwurst, schnitzel, sauerkraut, and sloshing down steins of Bavarian beer. The action begins at 5pm and tickets start at £15.

2. Discover how we study the ocean, see hundreds of behind-the-scenes specimens, chat to scientists and uncover cutting-edge research at the Natural History Museum’s Oceans Night. More than 300 scientists and experts will gather for the after-hours occasion offering displays, tours, experiments, challenges, discussions and debate. Head there for free at 6pm.

3. Stroll through St James's Park, taking in iconic spots including The Mall and Horse Guards Parade before catching feeding time for the resident pelicans at the 'St James's Pelican Walking Tour'. The Royal Parks' wildlife officer who's looked after the pelicans for 35 years will answer any questions and talk about his role. Book online on the Royal Park's website and then meet at the park's Blue Bridge. Tickets are £5.
