It's National Grilled Cheese Day! Yes, that's a thing.
Here are three reasons to stuff your face with their cheesy, gooey goodness.
1. It’s not afraid of a few calories. It comes buttered on both sides. Buttered on both sides, people. Our favourite in the high-calorie stakes has to be the one from Kappacasein in Borough Market, filled with three types of cheese. Phwoar.
2. It can make you rich. In 2004, a grilled cheese sarnie that ‘bore the likeness of the Virgin Mary’ sold on Ebay for $28,000. (We’re not making this shit up.) Luckily, Soho’s Melt Room sells cheesy wonders that retail from just £4.
3. It’s a great way to observe changes of state, turning from squishy to solid. Basically an edible physics lesson. Get your geek on after hours at the Heron Tower’s Duck & Waffle where they serve a late-night ox-cheek version.
