Thousands of life jackets have been placed in Parliament Square today, ahead of the UN Migration Summit, which takes place in New York. Campaigners from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) have laid out 2,500 life jackets around the statue of Winston Churchill to represent the thousands of refugees who have died making the crossing from Turkey to Greece. The IRC hopes the display outside Parliament will encourage world leaders at the UN Summit to do more to tackle the migrant crisis.
