Bad news South London – that Guy Fawkes firework display that you know and love is no more. Well not this year, anyway. It was announced this week that the annual show of bangers at Brockwell Park wouldn't be happening in 2015. Last year, Lambeth Council charged £7 a ticket but that still didn't stop it running way over budget. The Council's cabinet member for neighbourhoods, Councillor Jane Edbrooke reckons the decision was due to central government cuts. She was quoted in the Evening Standard saying 'The government have cut our budget by more than 50 percent – forcing us to make more than £200 million worth of cuts. We simply can’t afford to fund everything in the way we once did and so we have to prioritise the things our residents care about most.' She said that the council wanted to keep Lambeth Country Fair free so that was the priority this year. Fireworks are all well and good but those vegetable sculptures are something else!
