When did you last visit a great British beach? If you’re Mr/Ms Average Londoner, it was probably about three years ago. That’s according to research by Southeastern, a railway company which (no surprises here) is promoting its speedy city-to-sand train routes.

Apparently more than half of Londoners rarely or never see the British coastline, a quarter say it’s been more than a decade since they last paddled in UK waters and two thirds claim they only see the sea when they go abroad.

The average Londoner hasn’t taken a trip to the seashore for three years. And east Londoners are the worst offenders. Oh, we don’t like to be beside the seaside.

If this really is the case, it ought to be rectified. There are loads of brilliant beaches within day-tripping distance of London. Thankfully we’ve got you covered. To the beach!
