Usually, Westfield is the last place anyone wants to be during the festive season, but this year Bompas & Parr's newest venture for shoppers sounds pretty special. Think waterfalls, boat trips to hidden cocktail bars with drinks served by mermen and an unusual quest involving gemstones and mythological beasts.

Somehow the experimental pros behind breathable alcohol and a museum dedicated entirely to food, have manoeuvred a real life waterfall into The Village, at Westfield Shepherd's Bush. Inspired by the Greek sea-god Glaucus, said to have come to the rescue of sailors and fishermen who got into stormy weather, the pop-up aims to provide an escape from the mad rush of Christmas shopping. Let's hope you won't need to invoke the spirits while you sail across the 20-metre lagoon in search of those mermen mixologists.

Undersea botanicals and minerals feature on the marine-themed cocktail list, which promises 'psychological, emotional and physiological reactions' – though that's probably just the alcohol talking.

Beyond the Waterfall opens at Westfield, Shepherd’s Bush, Fri Dec 9–Dec 23 2016. Tickets are £15, plus booking fees for a 60-minute slot and two cocktails.

Here are five quirky cocktail glasses in London you'll want your next drink served in.
