So, it's Blue Monday – the most depressing day of the year, according to science (or PR companies, at least). Sure, it might be a totally made-up concept but if it means getting cheap (or better yet, FREE) food and drink, we're in. We've rounded up some of the best Blue Monday deals so that you can struggle through the day with free brownies, bottomless G&Ts and a free chauffeur driven car home. See? Blue Monday isn't so bad after all.

Free Konditor & Cook brownies

The lovely folks at Konditor & Cook are giving away 5,000 brownies across their six London stores in Waterloo, Gray’s Inn Road, Borough Market, Spitalfields Market, the Gherkin and on Goodge Street. All you have to do is turn up and take your pick of five different brownies, including chocolate chip, curly whirly and pecan caramel. It's first come, first served, but they'll be providing updates on Twitter about how many are left at each store, so you hopefully won't leave empty handed.

Free burgers at Lucky Chip

Free brownies not doing it for you? Grab a free burger instead at Lucky Chip's residency at The Old Queens Head, where they'll be giving you the chance to toss a coin to get a free burger. And if you don't get lucky tonight, they're doing it every Monday at their new weekly movie night. The Old Queens Head, 44 Essex Rd, Islington, N1 8LN.

Free rides home from Waterloo

Don't fancy getting the tube home tonight? You might be in luck, because cruise company Celebrity Cruises is giving Londoners the chance to win a free ride home in an chauffeur-driven car tonight, plus a luxury hamper stuffed with tasty snacks and wine. Just head over to Waterloo station before 2.30pm to enter the competition – and while you're there, be sure to make the most of the free refreshments they're giving out all day.

Bottomless G&Ts

If it really is the most depressing day of the year, then you're going to need a drink. And why stop at one? ETM bars are offering bottomless Tanqueray gin and tonics all day today for £15. You'll need to order some food to qualify, but then you've got two hours to drink as many G&Ts as you can manage. Challenge accepted. Available at these ETM bars: The Well, The White Swan, The Gun, The Botanist Sloane Square, Chiswell Street Dining Rooms, The Jugged Hare, One Canada Square, Ealing Park Tavern and The Botanist Broadgate Circle.

Kayak's virtual voyage

Can't afford a holiday? Have a virtual one instead. Okay, so it's not quite the same, but at Kayak's 'virtual voyage' pop-up, they promise you'll be able to feel the sand between your toes while a virtual reality headset transports you to an exotic beach. Plus it's free, which is more than we can say for those flights to Goa you've been eyeing up. Gallery Different, 14 Percy Street, W1T 1DR. Until 8pm. Free.
