Celebrity divorce has been the hot-button issue this week, so it's the perfect time for actress and reigning queen of the pithy soundbite Carrie Fisher to finally reveal why ace pilot Han Solo and out-of-his-league Princess-turned-General Leia Organa really split up, all those years ago in that galaxy far, far away. 'He smuggled way too much,' she told an audience at the Saskatoon Comic and Entertainment Expo (which is a thing, apparently). 'And girls, I know you don't want your husband smuggling, do you?' We won't ask why Han felt the need to keep up the thug life while dating one of the richest women in the galaxy, because that wasn't Leia's only problem – there was a third wheel in their relationship.

'(He was) hanging around with the hairy guy too often,' Fisher went on, referring to Han's ever-present 'Top Gun'-style 'co-pilot', Chewbacca. 'I think there are a lot of problems with that. (And) he wouldn't take me on that hyperspace thing enough. That's a euphemism.' So there you have it – a combination of criminality, wookiee-hugs and not enough, ahem, 'hyperspace' did for the greatest sci-fi couple of all time. At least now we can all move on, and remember the good times.

Fisher's comments came as Disney executives admitted they're exploring their options when the current trilogy of movies – and their 'A Star Wars Story' spinoffs – run out in 2020. Yet another trilogy is surely inevitable – but in the meantime, there's clearly enough material here for a Han & Leia divorce drama. 'Wookie on a Hot Tin Roof', anyone?
