Put your money away! Here are the week’s best free events

Block

Watch acrobats fly across the city skyline this week at a circus show that’s travelling through London. Held in Hounslow, Stratford and New Cross, Block features performers building, jumping off then destroying towers of ‘breeze blocks’. The aim is to explore the nature of life in the city, but the show also sounds a lot like a fight scene from a superhero movie. Win-win, really. Multiple venues. Sat Aug 27-Sep 3. Times vary.

Hula Hooping Workshop

Break a sweat while massively embarrassing yourself (probably) at a free family-friendly hula-hooping class on Wednesday. Each session lasts just 30 minutes but is sure to get you wiggling and giggling. Angel Central. Angel. Wed Aug 24, noon-2.30pm

The Wedding Party

More than 100 couples are tying the knot as part of the Southbank Centre’s Big Wedding Weekend. To celebrate, it’s holding a free ‘reception’ soundtracked by a 15-piece big band and a DJ spinning disco hits. Get ready to dad-dance. Southbank Centre. Waterloo. Sat Aug 27, 7.30pm-midnight.

Safari Festival

Calling all comic book nerds and magazine snobs: unite in Shoreditch this weekend for Breakdown Press’s annual celebration of all things print. You can even meet New York Times bestseller Simon Hanselmann of Megahex fame. Studio 2 at Protein. Old St. Sat Aug 27,11am-6pm. Studio 2 at Protein. Old St. Sat Aug 27,11am-6pm.

Mr Men Little Miss Mini Museum

Sorry to make you feel old but Mr Bump and co are turning 45 this year. The OXO Tower is marking their birthday with an exhibition of memorabilia on a child's scale. That won't stop nostalgic adults loving it too. Gallery OXO. Southwark. Thu Aug 25-Mon Aug 29, 10am-6pm.

Free Hog Roasts

Want an opportunity to pig out? Head to one of The Jam Tree’s free hog roast nights. They’re slow cooking pork over coals in their gardens from 7pm on Thursdays in Chelsea and Fridays in Clapham. The next one’s this Thursday. Arrive early to get fed. 13-19 Old Town and 541 Kingi's Rd. Until Sep 22.
