A pop-up gallery celebrating 'The Art of the Selfie' has arrived in Shoreditch. Yes, next time one of your mates takes the piss out of you for taking advantage of the 'great light' in your local Wetherspoons you can let them know: it's not narcissism, it's ART.

Running in Old Street station until November 14, the event will ‘take a quirky look at the modern phenomenon’. There'll be a gallery of self-portraits and a series of workshops looking at the psychology and skills behind taking pictures of yourself. You'll be able to learn photography techniques and even draw your own charcoal portrait. Plus, artist Jimmy C is going to project the faces of passers-by into the gallery window.

The event is the work of art retailer King & McGaw. Creative director Gyr King says: ‘We all think of the selfie as a modern day concept but our pop-up gallery and shop will explore the artistic origins of the selfie – from classical portraiture to Warhol’s iconic pop art pieces.'
