Why faff around building a Garden Bridge when you can jazz up the ones we already have? Illuminated River is purportedly one of the most 'ambitious public art projects of recent years,' which hopes to transform 17 of London's bridges with intricate lighting designs.

Now you can see a selection of designs from six of the shortlisted teams in an exhibition at Royal Festival Hall. The images are part of a competition launched earlier this year by the The Illuminated River Foundation charity and the Mayor of London. The project will cost around £20 milion with funds raised from largely private sources ( that's significantly less than the £185 million required to build the Garden Bridge).

The winner will be announced on Thursday December 8, but until then you can go judge the designs for yourself.
