[title]
It's the best Hollywood musical in years, and is hotly tipped to win big at the 2017 Oscars. But the big question hanging over dizzy LA-set romance 'La La Land' is, can Ryan Gosling really carry a tune? He may have hummed the odd number on screen over the years, but this is his first out-and-out showman role. Can he really carry it off? Wonder no more - here's one whole song from the movie, graced with the dulcet tones of both RyGos and his equally talented co-star Emma Stone.
It's a charming little number, as wistful and old-fashioned as the movie itself. The tale of an aspiring actress (Stone) and a dedicated jazz pianist (Gosling) who meet, fight and fall inevitably in love is directed by Damien Chazelle, the young filmmaker whose debut 'Whiplash' was such a buzzy hit in 2014. 'La La Land' has Oscars written all over it: it's precisely the kind of warm, up-with-people, ain't-love-grand weepie the Academy has always gone for, and it's even set in their own backyard. What's not to love?
'La La Land is released on Jan 13, but the soundtrack should be along a little sooner on Dec 13, both online and on vinyl. In the meantime, you can read Time Out's review of 'La La Land'.
