Don’t stay in – go out and stay out all night. Here’s your essential party schedule for this week.
Beyoncé’s Lemonade Party
Yes, Beyoncé may be touring the world dedicating ‘Halo’ to hubby Jay Z but he hasn’t totally been forgiven for his alleged foray with ‘Becky with the good hair’. Need evidence? Check out Gold Teeth’s Lemonade Terrace Party where you can beat Jay Z piñatas with Bey-bats, play Hova-hopscotch over his face and swing your fresh Lemon-braids to Sweet Bill and DJ Rah Kelly going back to back in the Lemonade Stand. And as a break from venting your anger and defending the Queen’s honour, there’s always the Blue Ivy Hula Hoop World Championship. Jamm. Fri Jun 10.
Once in Fado
Immerse yourself in authentic Portuguese music, food and theatre with this live show from director Matilde Trocado. Village Underground will be transformed into downtown Lisbon with live fado music and dramatic performances starring West End star Madalena Alberto. Taberna do Mercado will be selling traditional dishes (our Food team gave their Spitalfields restaurant five stars last year) with Cafe de Nata supplying those endlessly tasty traditional custard tarts. Catch this premiere in London before it tours to France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Brazil. Village Underground. Mon Jun 13.
Knickerbocker
A fun, friendly queer night where resident DJs Aaron Zimbra and Alex Lawless play irresistibly danceable hits plus live performances from Double Pussy Clit F*ck. The night will double as the launch of Knickbocker, a zine from the hands of the sublime Katy Baird. The Yard Theatre. Fri Jun 10.
What Ever Happened?
A club night asking the right question – what did happen to all that great indie pop music of the noughties? Dive into your wardrobe and dig out those neon nu-rave threads because it’s time to stomp to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Bloc Party and more. The Phoenix. Fri Jun 10.
