Drop everything you had planned for May. A new rooftop bar is opening on Oxford Street. Sisu is coming to the Marble Arch end of the famed shopping street. The rooftop space is set to have a Scandinavian theme – ‘sisu’ is a Finnish term that roughly represents resilience and courage. Move over, hygge.

Maybe the bar’s name is in reference to the bravery it takes to sit out on a rooftop in the British summer. But Sisu has that covered too, with heated concrete seats as well as an ‘oasis’ canopy (hopefully, nothing to do with the band).

The Scandi stylings and warming seats are of little significance, though, when you discover that this rooftop bar is planning to have its very own negroni machine. The team behind the bar are also – bemusingly – describing it as ‘a street food nature reserve’. So, yes, there’s food involved too.

Sisu takes over from Notch rooftop bar, which took over from Roofnic the year before. Each year a fresh theme and name give new life to the space, bringing queues of rooftop luvvies to an inconspicuous Oxford Street doorway. See you down there, mate… by that negroni machine.

Sisu is set to open on the roof at 535 Oxford Street, W1C 2QW. Watch this space for launch dates and opening hours.
