Do you spend your nights dreaming of Candice’s gingerbread pub? Are you waiting with bated breath for Selasi to finally open his London bakery? Is it your life’s aim to be part of the infamous GBBO WhatsApp group? Well, now you can get a first-hand taste of the tent action at London’s first ever pop-up bake off.
If you think you could knead a better loaf than Paul from series six’s bread lion, or rival Frances from series four’s rainbow picnic pie, then head down to The Castle pub in Tooting Broadway. It has a fully kitted-out marquee in its garden and is offering Londoners the chance to compete in a real-life bake off.
For 90 minutes, you’ll be able to concoct your very own showstopper under timed conditions at one of the tent’s ten bake stations. There’ll also be a professional baker on hand giving you hints and tips on how to keep your crumb structure in check and avoid any soggy bottoms. A treasure trove of decorations will be on hand for you to delve into, so you can make a seriously impressive signature bake. Once the timer’s up, the bakes will be tried and tested and a winning baker will be crowned. But, as you can take your tasty treats home, everyone’s a winner really.
The Big London Bake launches at The Castle, Tooting High Street, Tooting Broadway, SW17 0RG, on May 20, with tickets starting from £36.50. The competition will run five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday for six months. Find out more here.
