Bread, filling, bread. It’s a formula for the ages. But somehow, it’s elevated to even dizzier heights at Max’s Sandwich Shop, where Max Halley creates bready beasts of sandwiches that are worth getting messy for. Never been to Max’s? Well, it’s in Crouch End, so unless you’re a north Londoner, it’s quite a schlepp for a sarnie.
That’s why we couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that Max is bringing him pimped-up sandwiches to Dalston’s Birthdays. He’ll be setting up shop for a six-month residency, where you can find his historic ham, egg and chips sarnie, among other fillings. He’ll also be serving up the restaurant’s much-loved mac ’n’ cheese balls.
If that’s not enough excitement for you, Birthdays also has a slushie machine, so you’ll be able to wash down the sandwiches and snacks with frozen margaritas (and anything else they let Max put in the machine, for that matter).
Max’s Sandwich Shop is coming to Birthdays, 33-35 Stoke Newington Rd, N16 8BJ. The residency starts on Tue May 23 and will run for six months.
