London was the toast of the town last night as the World’s 50 Best Bars were announced, with a total of nine of the capital’s best bars making the top 50 – more than any other city in the countdown. The highest London entry went to The Savoy’s classy American Bar, while Dandelyan (winner of Time Out’s best bar team award) swooped in at number 3. The top ten accolades continued, with The Connaught Bar, Happiness Forgets and The Gibson all gaining a top spot. The Gibson only opened last year, and was the highest new entry on the whole list.

Other top 50 awards – voted on by nearly 500 leading figures in the industry – went to old London favourites Callooh Callay and Nightjar, a bar that maintained its standing despite head bartender Marian Beke leaving to set-up The Gibson. Meanwhile, Bar Termini and Oriole both joined the list for the first time. It was New York who took the top spot though, with Dead Rabbit bar at number one, after Artesian – which had been named the world’s best bar since 2012 – fell completely from the top 50 after the departure of its leading bar team.

Compare the list with winners of the Time Out London Bar Awards 2016.
